Diabetes Clinic (Adult)
With the number of patients diagnosed with diabetes continuing to rise, diabetes education is more important today than ever before.
The Mattawa Hospital is an outreach clinic of the Nipissing Diabetic Centre and provides assessment, education, support and counseling to individuals with diabetes and their families utilizing a Diabetic Nurse and Dietician (via Ontario Telemedicine). We also provide resources to agencies and facilities within our community.
Instruction is given on how to test blood sugar levels and administer insulin injections to oneself as well as to a family member and on the proper methods for taking pills. Information on healthy food choices is also discussed.
Diabetic clients & their families can be referred by the physicians, nurses, friends & self. The diabetic nurse educator can be reached at the hospital 705-744-5511, extension 2234 or by leaving a message with the admitting office.
The full time service at the North Bay Office provides a Pediatric Diabetes Team consisting of Pediatricians, Nurse, Dietitian and Social Worker, as well as referral centre for diabetes and pregnancy.
